Complex Care – The Arbours

The Arbours operates in collaboratoin with the Vancouver Island Health Authority and is licensed under the Community Care and Assisted Living Act. 

The units at the Arbours are funded through and managed by the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA).   Access to the Arbours is solely through the Vancouver Island Health Authority who will determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis.  Interested parties can contact VIHA directly at: Central Intake Number 1-877-734-4101.

The Arbours is built to the latest design standards and is comprised of 160 complex care units.  Each unit has a handicapped accessible bathroom with ensuite shower, and is furnished with its own electric bed, armoire, and dresser. Every unit has a ceiling track so that lifts can be used to support residents with physical limitations.

Residents are encouraged to decorate their own rooms with prior approval of the Director of Care.

Description of the building configuration

Neighbourhood Living

  • There are a total of 160 units/rooms within the Arbours.
  • There are 4 neighbourhoods (South Ridge, North Ridge, Gentle Grove, Forest Grove). 
  • Within each neighbourhood there are 17 further groupings of between 8 and 11 units/rooms. 
  • While each unit has a single-bedroom, there are opportunities for couples or friends to cohabitate.
  • Each neighbourhood has its own common lounge and dining area.

Features

  • 24 hour on site supervised nurse call system
  • Safety is ensured through regular fire drills
  • Ability (on an approved basis) to use electric mobility devices
  • Smoke detectors

Visiting Hours

  • Families and friends are always welcome to visit residents. We respect the privacy of others.
  • Family and friends may be provided with a code to enter the building when the door is locked (outside regular reception hours).

Reception

  • Regular business hours – 8:00 am to 4:00 pm every day.

Accommodation Cost for residents- or their representative

Accommodation rates are set through VIHA.  Residents must pay a monthly “client user fee” as determined by VIHA.  Note that this user fee will change from time to time.  Contact VIHA at the number listed above for further information about client user fees.

Restrictions
  • Residents are not permitted to have personal pets, although pets are allowed to visit as long as they are properly attended to all times and do not pose a threat or concern to others.

Please Note:
Ultimately the owners (as with any operator) reserve the right to restrict occupancy and can refuse admission to individuals and/or require individuals to vacate the Sunridge Place premises.
